A day in Strasbourg (and Kehl)

offers you a lot! Fascinating capital of Alsace, border city to Kehl Germany, city in the heart of Europe, city of Goethe being a student, French capital of Christmas. See the beautiful sights like the monument of Mother Alsace, the medieval cathedral and the Orangerie Park.

Enjoy the atmosphere of the picturesque timber-frame houses, historical buildings, romantic gardens, traditional restaurants and a boat ride on the river Ill. Listen to interesting facts about the cathedral, stories about the Raven Square, see the fortress of Louis XIV and the German Emperor´s Palace, discover the European Parliament and the Palace of Rohan, and pass along the 3rd biggest river port of Europe.

A delicious drink: The Amer Beer / Picon Beer
The Library of the German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm
The German Kaiser´s Palace
Alsace´s holy mountain - The monastery of Saint Odilia

The historical centre around the Cathedral and along the river Ill invite you to pleasant walks, also there are so many shops and boutiques in the city centre that offer you a splendid shopping experience.

After your walk you enjoy some Alsatian specialties such as the famous Alsatian Wine, its Champage called Cremant d’Alsace and a savoury Amer Picon when eating the Flammekueche (Tarte Flambée = the Alsatian „Pizza“). There is much more to taste, such as Baeckeoffe, Sauerkraut, Chicken Leg in White Wine or Poached Salmon in Cream Sauce.

A day out (or two) in the Alsace

is a great pleasure! Along the Rhine river you follow the famous Wine Road. You will see why the French King Louis XIV called the Alsace his "beautiful garden". Come to the Staufer Castle Hochkoenigsburg and see the Holy Odilia Mountain Monastery with a tremendous panoramic view up to the Black Forest.

For dinner you enjoy the typical Winstub (Wine Restaurant) oder Bierstub (Beer Restaurant) and taste the famous wine with Flammekueche (a kind of pizza with bacon, onions and cheese) or Gugelhupf (a sweet cake). There are seven kinds of wine (Riesling, Sylvaner, Grey Burgundy, White Burgundy, Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Red Burgundy) plus one mixture called Edelzwicker, plus the sparkling Cremant (like Champagne) and delicious brandies from wine and fruit. There is homemade honeybread and wonderful cheese.

You may visit amazing villages such as Riquewihr (the "pearl" of the Alsace), Kaysersberg (city of Albert Schweitzer), Obernai (city of Saint Odile), Colmar (the capital of the south and origin of the Statue of Liberty) and Soufflenheim (where the ceramic is from).

Driving through the Vosges Mountains, you will see impressive panoramic views, the special Vosges Cattle breed and you can enjoy a delicious, mouth-watering meal in a mountain farmhouse.

The Black Forest

is equally beautiful to its Alsatian counterpart. There is the world-famous Baden-Baden with its thermal baths (from the hottest springs in Germany) and the casino gambling hall, the medieval city centre of Gengenbach, where you can taste the Black Forest Brandies (and there is even more than only Kirschwasser = Cherry Brandy). You will see the romantic Mummelsee Lake and its big brother, the Titisee Lake near Freiburg.

There are breathtaking waterfalls and gorges in Allerheiligen (wild and romantic), Triberg (160 metres in seven cascades) and Todtnau (96 metres in one cascade). Between Colmar and Freiburg, the wonderful Kaiserstuhl is warmed by the sun: Ihringen and Breisach are world-famous for their Riesling and Gutedel wines.

You can also go by walking

in the Rhine Valley along rivers, canals and little lakes, see fish and birds in the Taubergiessen National Reserve, Strasbourg´s Rohrschollen Island and the Robertsau Park.

Impressive ruins of medieval castles we can hike to are the Hochkoenigsburg, Ortenburg, Ramstein, Bernstein, Rappoltstein, Schauenburg, Geroldseck and many more. Though ruins, most of them are well accessible and in good shape.

Really amazing is the High Vosges Mountain Range from Col de la Schlucht, Gazon du Faing, White Lake and Black Lake, also the Black Forest Waterfalls mentioned above. Idyllic and pastoral is the Kaiserstuhl Mountain Range with its wine terraces and orchid fields, vulcanic remains and mediterranean fauna and flora.

... or by bycicle

in the Rhine Forests along the Napolean-built canals, Strasbourg and Kehl as well as Vosges Mountain panoramic route. Easy going tracks follow the best views and mostly you get shadow from trees. Plenty of cosy restaurants make your tour a pleasant ride.

If you like, I book your dinner or lunch in typical restaurants, and a homemade Wine, Brandy or Cheese Tasting at the producers´ place.

If you are not a travel agency (coming by your own bus) but come alone (or as a small group) I can also take you by my car to the places you want to see for an additional fare. We can start at the train station or at your hotel. I have 4 seats in my Mercedes 190 D. Should you need more space, I can ask a taxi company for a bigger car or even a bus.
